My Equipment (June 2012)

I've owned lots of equipment over the years, starting with a Nikon EM 35mm SLR in January 1983, then many years later a Canon Digital Rebel to start me off with digital SLRs. Here is a list of what I own now:
L-R: Nikon D3100 w/18-55mm VR kit lens (for my wife), Olympus E-PL1 with 14-42mm II "kit" lens
Nikon D5100 with 18-105mm VR and 50mm 1.8 G (mounted)

Cameras:
  • "Everyday"/For My Wife: Nikon D3100 DSLR. (link) This is mainly for my wife to use, as she doesn't like to use point & shoots but I don't like her wearing out "my" cameras either. Upgraded from a Nikon D60 to get this (June 2012) because I was able to do so cheaply & because it uses the same batteries as the Nikon D5100 which is my best camera
  • My Best Camera: Nikon D5100 DSLR. (link) My best camera. Got it upgrading from a D5000 (its successor) in March 2012 when I got my tax refund. It has the same sensor as the highly regarded Nikon D7000 (link) and a similar feature-set of my previous D5000, just enough from the absolute entry-level to give me the extra features it offers
  • "Travel Light": Olympus E-PL1 "mirrorless". (link) My "mini DSLR," got it February 2012 (had also owned it earlier Nov 2011 but sold it, at the time it didn't "catch on"). It's a "portable alternative" to my D5100 when I wish to travel light.
